What analytics collects

Where analytics is switched on, we use Google Analytics 4 to count how the site is used. It records the pages you view, the searches you make, the links you click, your approximate location (city or country, worked out by Google from your network address), and the type of device and browser you use.

Before a search is sent, anything that looks like a phone number, account number or email address is replaced with “[redacted]”, and long searches are cut short.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets two cookies: _ga, which tells one browser from another so that visits can be counted, and _ga_E4TMM39KG3, which keeps the state of a session. Both are used only to count visits to this site.

Advertising

Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off. We do not use analytics data for advertising and do not share it with advertisers.

How long it is kept

Google keeps analytics data for 14 months and then deletes it automatically.

The site’s own counters

Separately, the site keeps its own count of page-to-page navigation and outbound link clicks on its own servers. These counters record only the shape of a page address (for example, “an institution page”), which link on the page was used, and, for outbound link clicks, which institution, product or branch the link belonged to. The switch below does not affect them. They set no cookie, give you no visitor identifier, and never store what you searched for.

The waitlist

If you join an institution’s waitlist, we store your email address and the consent wording you agreed to, so that we can tell you when that institution is added. This information is never sent to Google Analytics.

Turning analytics off

You can turn analytics off at any time with the switch below. Your choice is saved in this browser only. You can also install Google’s browser add-on, which works on all websites:
